An officer on patrol in Scarsdale spotted a Mitsubishi Eclipse turn right from Post Road onto Huntington Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. He proceeded to drive the wrong way on the one-way portion of Huntington Avenue in front of the Greenacres School and then failed to stop at a pair of stop signs in the area.
The officer stopped the driver - later identified as Brooklyn resident Gabrial Llanos, 27 - who initially said he was coming from White Plains and was going to White Plains. He then changed his story and said that he was heading to Brooklyn. During the course of the conversation, the officer said that Llanos had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. The officer also noted that "Llanos appeared nervous and would not make eye contact."
Llanos went on to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. When prompted to take a breathalyzer, police said that Llanos was unable to provide an adequate sample and “it appeared (he) was intentionally not providing an adequate sample.” Llanos was subsequently taken into custody.
At Scarsdale Police Headquarters, Llanos agreed to submit to a Datamaster DMT test, which found his blood alcohol content to be .07 percent. He was charged with operation of a motor vehicle without a license, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, failure to stop at a stop sign, and operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, all infractions.
Following his processing, Llanos was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Scarsdale Village Court on Sept. 26 to answer the charges.
